Vic, yes I also opted to keep the 3.99% along with the $10 monthly fee and 5% payment of the balance when my initial discovery was made.

Chase's "mistake" caused me a certain amount of anxiety and anguish earlier this year. I actually debated in my head that I may have to cash out a portion of an IRA to pay the thieves off. Fortunately, I did not do this but I guarantee you that others out there raided their retirement accounts to make this "mistake" go away.

Hopefully this is a situation of "too little, too late" for Chase and the lawsuits hit them hard.

I recieved the same letter today, am wondering what options others took that are getting this change of heart by chase...I opted to continue payying the 5% for the past 3 months instead of the new 7.99% or pay balance in full and close account....what did others do that got this same letter?

My most recent statement dated March 12th did not include the new FINANCE CHARGE...but still had a minimum payment of 5% and none of the $10 FINANCE CHARGES have been credited back....

Received a letter from Chase today stating that I was "incorrectly sent a Change in Terms notice this past November."

They are taking the $10 monthly charge off, crediting the $10 charged for each of the months, and also reverting my monthly payment back to 2% of the balance.

Frankly, Chase can still burn in hell.

Whether statements are 7.99% or 8.49%, or any other percentage rate besides the originally promised promotional rate, the claim in a legal argument would probably be similar to the remarks I have made here on this site. Chase utilized a coercive tactic (the threat of raising minimum payments to 5% of the balance) to "force" account holders out of their lower rates.

I do get the point about being told 7.99%, only to see 8.49% on a subsequent statement. What this suggests to me is that there is no point discussing anything with Chase "customer service" representatives. Communications should be sent through the OCC; you should demand any responses in writing; and Chase can't be trusted. (You should still complain to the OCC, if you have not done so already.)

I do not have my own final determination from the OCC. However, I think it is worthwhile to show that the OCC is not effective relative to protecting consumers from banks (if that turns out to be the case). I would also add that the agreement you made was exactly what Chase wanted you to do. See my post here on "<a href="http://www.changeinterms.com/2008/12/31/a-lesson-in-executive-logic-greed-and-sleaze-at-chase/" rel="nofollow">executive logic</a>" (you went through Door #3).

Anna,

I am starting to see the light. If voting results in an administration like this one, with its appropriations that has to be refused by those who they gave it to as the failsafe against corruption. then I think what the hell, give me the tyrant who simply steal out of greed.

Oh yes. I forgot. America has the lowest number of scientists per capita in the 1st world.

That really doesn't fit does it?

Got 'Bama, Dodd and the rest of the criminals we sent to D.C. to rip us off watchin over them.

We are the country after all who turned our backs on a hero and 30 year crusader against pork, advocate for campaign reform and term limits and instead selected a freshman Senator who began his presidential run after 3 months in office...trained at the knee of the Dalys, no less.

We went drunk to the booth on first Tuesday. We deserve what we got.

It's the rest of the world who doesn't

Agreed to raise APR to 7.99%, guaranteed 7.99%, in writing, for 2 years.

Statement came last month, 7.99%.

Statement came this month, it's 7.99% right?

No.

8.49%.

More evidence for the class action. They can't wiggle out of this one.
