Dear Jeffrey,

Thank you for your comment. If you will poke around the site a little more, you'll find that I have discussed many aspects of the fine print. I also, on this site and on others, continuously correct the words "service charge," and "fee," no matter who says it, because the actual change in terms notice said "finance charge" (several times!). This is the one essential fact that has allowed me and others to claim in a way that I think will prevail (especially in the class action suit, which has been filed) that Chase used a deceptive advertising technique. In other words, no matter how small, it is nevertheless the Achilles' heel (and I pointed out in my December 3, 2008 letter to Gordon Smith that I think Chase, for once, made a strategic blunder for using the words "finance charge." Therefore, you see, "Carmen," the other representatives, the form letters that are being sent to every body, and spokespersons who are talking to the media keep going back to playing games with the language: service fee, versus finance charge.

In any event, I do use a centralized place to post documents that I have scanned, letters that I have written, etc. If you'll check the right side navigation bar on the site, under "Correspondence," the change in terms (11/2008) and the original 3.99% offer are both there. Best wishes.

I've experienced the exact same thing but on curious twist was that I was told on the phone by "Carmen" that the $10/month charge is, in effect, the institution of an annual fee for a previously advertised "No Annual Fee" card. Could you please post the full terms and "fine print" for the 2.99%/3.99%/4.99% balance transfer promotions so that others may evaluate just how Chase is weaseling out of its contractual obligations?

Thanks for posting, Steve. I will not for one minute tell you that there is anything gratifying about fighting back, because it is hard, sometimes frustrating work. Yes, you can simply pursue one of the options that you listed, and then rid yourself of Chase (sooner or later). As for me, I'm going to keep doing all that I can to spread the word about Chase's reprehensible behavior. Thus far, I know from my site statistics, that over a thousand unique visits in the past few weeks (the period after I installed the blog software) indicates at least some have been warned. In terms of other things that you can do (you posed a question but finished your remark like a sentence), you can join the fight by taking some of the steps that I outlined on this site (see the "Join the Fight" page). Regardless, I extend to you my best wishes.

We have encountered the same problem, what can we do other than to pay the higher amount, or higher rate, or close the account. Like yourself, we have met our obligations under the signed agreement, time for Chase to reward people like us, not alienate us.
